Last year I encountered an article about a new color film by ORWO that was to be released shortly. The article provided some photos from the producer and I liked them. ORWO’s site featured the same photos in their news section and I decided to try to replicate the look with my X-T4 camera. So, that is how ORWO WOLFEN NC500 recipe has been born.
WOLFEN NC500 is a limited edition 500 ASA, 36 exposure, colour photographic film. This is the first brand new colour photographic film that we have launched in decades… At the core of our new colour film lies a unique chemical formula based on the wonderful and legendary Agfa stock last used in the Oscar winning film ‘Out of Africa’. Famous for their greens, desaturated shadows and enhanced grains, these are all aspects that we are embracing for our new addition…

Before publishing this recipe I decided to link original images made with the film for you to make a comparison if you would choose to do so. But I have found that the ORWO’s site features a set of different images that present a bit different colors in most situations.
During the last weeks, our team has been busy improving the sensitometry of the cine film and have now crafted a refined formulation.

Well, that means that my recipe may be considered outdated. But I still greatly like it. It has become one of my favorite recipes for X-Trans IV sensor. The present colors of ORWO WOLFEN NC500 are also great. But to me the original set had something unique.
Here is a link for you to check the original set.
In my opinion the recipe is best used outdoors during daylight. But I have also found that natural light portraits look great indoors too. But, you can use this recipe to shoot in any scenario you think suitable.
